Hot-work tool steels are used to form and shape metals and plastics. The efficiency of the respective processes is therefore largely determined by the performance of the tool materials. In addition to a suitable choice of steel, heat treatment is of particular importance. The presentation will therefore describe the entire heat treatment process. In addition to heating the tools, the main focus is on the cooling process, as pre-eutectoid carbide precipitations and coarse bainite carbides significantly reduce the service life of the tools. In addition to the description, an attempt is made to identify solutions to avoid this.
